NUREYEV: Dancing under the Acropolis
Description
Photographs — many of them previously unpublished — alongside well-known and published images, as well as autographs, original sketches once seen in newspapers and later acquired for his collection, costumes and programs, records, posters, and books, were brought together in a richly illustrated bilingual edition (Greek–English) published by the Archive of Theraic Studies – Dimitris Tsitouras Collection, on the occasion of the 60th anniversary of Rudolf Nureyev’s first appearance at the Odeon of Herodes Atticus and the 30th anniversary of his death.
And while a picture may be worth a thousand words, the new edition also includes texts that shed further light on additional aspects of Nureyev’s relationship with Greece. Contributions are signed, among others, by academic Manolis Korres regarding the monument where the star of the publication was celebrated, as well as by personalities who knew him personally, such as Theodoros Kritas, Rozita Sokou — to whom the book is dedicated — Alexis Kostalas, and Dimis Argyropoulos, who share anecdotes and unseen moments that remained away from the public spotlight.
